  • In the renewable energy sector, we provide insights on project feasibility, policy analysis, Indigenous engagement, and community engagement to advance green projects like offshore wind and green hydrogen.

    We have undertaken economic impact studies for the development of offshore wind and green hydrogen in Atlantic Canada, a project which also included an Indigenous engagement plan.

    We also work with organizations on climate change planning, modernizing climate policy, and navigating the renewable energy transition. Recent work includes a Climate Change Strategy for Nunatsiavut Government, an economic impact study for offshore wind development in Nova Scotia, and environmental guide modernization for a provincial government.

  • Our expertise in housing and homelessness has focused on creating actionable, sustainable solutions in municipal and Indigenous nonprofit / government efforts toward affordable and accessible housing. We work with governments, nonprofits, and community organizations to research housing (from market conditions to availability and quality), develop affordable and transitional housing business plans, complete funding applications for housing initiatives, and create frameworks and strategies to address homelessness, particularly in Indigenous and rural communities.

  • We partner with Indigenous communities, governments, and organizations to advance economic development, self-governance, and community-based planning. We bring a collaborative approach rooted in respect and understanding, working on projects that support community goals and Indigenous-led solutions. We frequently collaborate with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre and Nunatsiavut Government on a wide range of strategies spanning climate change, construction, housing, and tourism. Many of these projects are rooted in robust community engagement.

  • Our experience in the marine and blue economy supports coastal communities and marine industries in pursuing sustainable growth. We focus on economic development, policy guidance, funding advocacy, and business planning, helping clients navigate challenges and opportunities in Canada’s marine sector.

  • 21FSP team members have long-standing experience in conducting projects for arts and culture organizations across the east coast and beyond, including, recently, a Sustainable Cultural Tourism Plan the Town of Lunenburg and a survey for Events East.

    Co-founder Thomas McGuire worked on arts and culture projects for Celtic Colours, the Mi’kmaq Native Friendship Centre, the Mi’kmaw of Nova Scotia, the Cape Breton Festival and Events Initiative, Neptune Theatre, the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, and Heritage, and served as economist of record for the Canadian Tourism Commission.

    Specific to music, we have a deep understanding of the music industry and communities in Atlantic Canada, through hands-on performance, research, journalism, and teaching experience.

    Our Senior Consultant Rebekah Hutten is a doctoral candidate in musicology at McGill University where she is studying music communities in the Annapolis Valley; she is also a flautist and chorister, and in the past served as a judge for the JUNO Awards and FACTOR.

    Additionally, Senior Research Manager Joseph Burton is a performer and drummer for one of Atlantic Canada’s largest Celtic music organizations.

    21FSP Associate Partner Amy MacKenzie was former Vice President and Director of Communications on the Board of the Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association, and in her former journalism career, she was an arts and culture editor for a daily newspaper in Nova Scotia, as well as playing in pipe bands and hosting cèilidhs in Fredericton.

  • We have supported the construction sector in Nova Scotia and across Nunatsiavut through strategic planning, labour market analyses and forecasting, and dashboard tool development. We focus on solutions to navigate challenges such as climate change, labour market realities, regulatory compliance, and community capacity. Our insights have helped construction stakeholders stay competitive, efficient, and knowledgeable of future possible scenarios based on data.

  • Our work with rural communities and municipalities involves strategic planning, economic development, and infrastructure support. We help clients address challenges unique to rural areas, such as workforce retention, sustainable growth, infrastructural capacity, and tourism, building plans that enhance resiliency and foster economic stability.

  • Our transportation sector work addresses economic impact, policy planning, and community needs. We assist governments and organizations in making informed decisions relevant to the transportation sector.

  • Our work in the health sector addresses issues like access to care, public health infrastructure, and mental wellness. We have supported health organizations in developing responsive strategies that tackle these challenges, incorporating community needs and fostering innovation in health service delivery, as well as in branding and communications for specific health professions.

  • 21FSP provides consulting for sport organizations with a focus on economic impact analysis. We work with sport stakeholders to deliver insights on the economic benefits of sport initiatives; most recently, we completed a nation-wide study on the economic impact of golf, including a survey completed by over 10,000 respondents.

  • In the tourism sector, we have developed strategies that support sustainable tourism growth and economic impact. We work with towns, tourism boards, and industry players to create strategies that are deeply rooted in community engagement, cognizant of tourism trends and history, and that are mindful of balancing community development with environmentally and culturally sustainable recommendations.
